𧩠The One: Building Instructions đ§©
The ONE puzzle where YOU define the challenge.
Welcome to The One. Unlike traditional puzzles with a single solution, “The One” is a modular LEGO system. You will build the board, set the goal, and then try to solve it by leaving exactly one tile exposed.
đŠ Whatâs in the Bag?
Before you begin, ensure you have all your components ready:
The Foundation: 1 16×16 LEGO Baseplate (ID-91405).
The Targets: 24 pieces of 2×2 Tiles (4 sets of 6 vibrant colors-ID 3068).
The Perimeter: A selection of LEGO Technic beams.
The Solvers: Bricks and plates to build your (6) unique play pieces.

Step 1: Assemble Your Play Pieces
Note: These pieces are the “keys” to the puzzle. Their shapes are fixed to ensure the math of the puzzle works.
Download and follow the assembly guide to build your 6 play pieces.
Once built, set these aside. These will be used later to cover the board.

Step 2: Design Your Board
You have two choices: use our Classic Layout or Forge Your Own.
Option A: The Classic LayoutÂ
If you want to get straight to the solving, follow the picture provided to place your 24 tiles in the shape shown.

Option B: Forge Your Own (The “Pro” Choice)
You are free to place the 24 tiles in any pattern you wish! However, to ensure the puzzle is actually solvable, you must obey the Three Golden Laws:
đ Law 1: The Solid Block All 24 tiles must be touching at least one other tile. No “islands” or floating pieces allowed! Your board must be one continuous landmass.
đ Law 2: The Grid Alignment Every tile must be snapped fully onto the studs. No “half-stud” offsets or diagonal placements. If the tiles aren’t perfectly aligned, the play pieces won’t fit.
đ« Law 3: The Perimeter Rule Avoid “tails.” Do not create a shape where a single 2×2 tile sticks out by itself from the main body (shown by the white piece in the figure). These “dead zones” create a case where there is no solution. Keep your shapes “chunky”. If you have a piece sticking out, make sure there are at least 2 of them.

Step 3: Secure the Perimeter
To keep your play pieces from sliding off the “The One” during the heat of the solve, we use Technic pieces as guardrails.
Identify the outer boundary of your tile pattern.
Place the Technic beams around the edges of your shape. This creates a “frame” that keeps the puzzle tight and professional.

Step 4: The Challenge (How to Play)
Now that your board is set, itâs time to solve.
The Target: Look at your board of 24 tiles. Pick exactly ONE tile that you want to remain visible.
The Goal: Use your 6 play pieces to cover the remaining 23 tiles.
The Victory: You win if every single tile is covered by the play pieces except for the one specific tile you chose.

Congatulations! Because you chose the layout and you chose the target tile, you have created a unique mathematical puzzle that is entirely your own. If you solve it, youâve conquered a challenge that didn’t exist until you built it! See if you can find a different solution to what you just solved, OR pick a different tile to solve. The choices are endless!
